Colors in Nature

It's fall time, and parents you know that it's time to rake those leaves.
BEFORE you do, use what nature has to offer.

Leaf Rubbings
Now that your children are aware of the appropriate clothing to wear during this fall season, get them out picking leaves! This fun activity allows for outdoor play with an indoor craft!

For Toddlers and Up

The materials needed:
4 or more leaves
2 or more pieces of plain white paper per child
crayons
construction paper per plain white piece used
a glue stick
a pencil

1. Go outside and have your child pick their favorite leaves
2. As everyone comes back inside, have children wash their hands as you set up the craft table
3. Have your child place a leaf under a piece of paper, and rub with a crayon. The leaf shape will appear!
4. Once the white paper is filled and or your child is happy with their work, they may glue it on to construction paper

To add to this activity, have the child write their name on the paper. Assist where practice is needed, and/or talk about other objects that are yellow (bus), green (grass), red (firetruck)...

Encouraging words you as a parent can say to your child throughout making the rubbed leaves; you are a great artist, I love the leaves you picked out, way to go, you're good at this.

So go on, try it out!

  1. I think these are beautiful and fun. Of course we will have to make big piles of leaves to jump in before any leaves are collected. Thanks for the activity.

  2. Excellent activity to enjoy these nice fall days! Since I live bordering the woods, perhaps I have some volunteers to help rake my leaves?

  3. I remember doing this as a child. This is probably the reason why I love Fall, because of the leaves!
