Sunny Day

The leaves are falling and the weather is changing.
Have your children join you for an outside adventure.

Scarecrow
This activity allows time to be active while getting fresh air and family team work while making a scarecrow.

For Grades Pre K and Up

The materials needed:
A bale of straw
Clothing: overalls
bandanna
Hat
large blanket to use for outside
stocking

1.Lay the blanket on the grass in your yard
2.Place straw, stocking, overalls, hat and bandanna on the blanket
3.Begin having fun stuffing straw into the overalls and stocking (for the head)
4.After, decorate the scarecrow by adding the hat and bandanna
5.Place the homemade scarecrow on your porch, near your mailbox or somewhere on your property for all to see

To add to this activity, you could talk about the appropriate clothing we should wear in the fall season, because it is no longer summer.

Encouraging words you as a parent can say to your child throughout making the scarecrow; 'he looks great', 'wow', 'I had fun with you today'.

So go on, try it out!

  1. I have done this myself with my own children and it is a great way to get them engaged and often, while the work is going on, good conversations blossom!

  3. My kids love being outside at this time of year and I think this a great project. I love great physical crafts. I think that the whole family will have fun doing this and my daughter has been complaining we have no Halloween decorations up.
